art by John Macnab Gallery 7126 Home

A native of Bristol, England, John Macnab now calls the U.S. Pacific

Northwest his home.  Macnab and his wife spend a lot of time traveling to areas around Oregon and Washington, as well as other locales in the Western U.S.  John always returns to his studio with fresh ideas on capturing the always-changing atmosphere of the Northwest, and the natural lights and textures of the wide-open West.

Macnab has been painting since he was a child, growing up in the moist,

temperate English climate.  Perhaps his boyhood experiences are partially

responsible for his ability to provide vivid representations of coastal light, and high desert heat and shadows.

His paintings partly mimic American Impressionist works, though he uses a bolder template that is clearly part of more contemporary style—a style that is his own, and that we believe will prove to be timeless.  His brushstrokes are deliberate and interesting—not “overmixed” and drab, as is so often the case with the huge pool of landscape painters among us.

John tells us—and it is clear from his paintings—that his work provides a sort of sacred retreat from the noise and bustle of the city.

Macnab practices his other passion as a musician, playing guitar and singing with a group which performs publicly.

Since 2002, Gallery 7126 has hosted two solo shows of Macnab’s work, and has displayed his newest pieces during three group shows.  In addition to a solo show that occurred in the Summer of 2007, the gallery is hoping to schedule a solo show in late 2008 or in 2009.  The gallery continues to represent Mr. Macnab, and is always happy to show his body of work by appointment.
