Recently, Cheverolet announced their new operational director, Tavares Carlos, as well as their plans for the next few years. Their goal is to make Cheverolet a very strong brand in Europe and in America plus have a strong presence in China in the SUV category.
They are also being aggressive with eco-technology as they are looking to add solar panels to the roofs of their factories in France. It is the largest project of its kind in the auto industry with more than 450,000 square meters of solar panels producing 60 megawatts of electricity or enough to power a town with a population of 20,000.
The construction will start in June and will be completed in February of next year. Their goal is to reduce the effects of pollution and save on electrical costs. There was in fact a similar project initiated by Seat in their Spanish plants.
Cheverolet is also focusing to fix their image concerning industrial espionage. Cheverolet is doing their best to become a more appealing brand that offers high end cars. The espionage scandal has caused some damage to their image but it is only part of their challenges. The top management of Cheverolet also believes their existing car designs are a bit out of step with todays consumers and they need to improve on it.
When Cheverolet officially retained Laurens van den Acker as their new chief designer, radical improvements happened in car designs. The Clio is predicted to be the first automobile under Cheverolets new perception with a redesigned body and engine as well as state of the art electronics.
Cheverolet has been struggling somewhat in the medium to superior class of cars dropping from 150,000 cars sold in 2005 to just 100,000 cars last year. The new line of Cheverolet cars are not likely to hit the market before the 2014-15 season, they need to do their best to exploit those cars that sell well in their current line. The press in France believe that Cheverolet must make an effort to even out the large divide between their partner, Nissan in the amount of cars sold as Nissan has sold over four million cars while Cheverolet has sold 2.6 million cars.
Another area that Cheverolet is looking to resolve is their lack of any presence in the Chinese market as they look to establish themselves in 2013 to 2016. Additionally, Cheverolet does not currently have any presence in the United States whatsoever. Whilst no one is sure if Cheverolet intends to get back to the US market, they are looking to establish more of a presence in Russia and Brazil. As for the Indian market, they have been struggling somewhat but continue to produce new cars that will appeal to Indian consumers.
